Striped tee (Similar here and here) | Burgundy hair scarf | Distressed jeans | Cut out booties
Everything’s pumpkin-flavored right now and I just wanna wear sweaters and pretend it’s chilly out! But since that’s not happening yet here in the desert, I had to improvise. The best way I’ve been transitioning my wardrobe to fall (so to speak) is by wearing fall colors, but in a summery way! Read on for details on this stripes and jeans look.
This Madewell striped t-shirt caught my eye on another blogger recently, and I immediately fell in love. The colors are unique and just POP! I knew I had to have it and I’m already wearing it a ton. And since it’s a t-shirt it’s also great for hot summer weather too. And once it gets cooler I plan on throwing a cardigan or denim jacket over it and continuing to wear it all season!
Another trend I’m digging lately is bandanas as hair scarves. Snatched up the beautiful burgundy one pictured from Target, once again a Universal Thread gem! Sadly it’s sold out but here’s a very similar bandana hair scarf that’s still available. (Update: I’m also wearing it in this post in a different way!)
Maybe you guys recognize these distressed Levi’s jeans from my spend or splurge post back in March. They’ve definitely been worth the investment so far! I’ve had them for about a year now and don’t see them leaving my closet anytime soon.
My favorite new wardrobe staple, though, has to be these cut out booties from Target (you guessed it… Universal Thread does it again!). I’ve had my eye on the more expensive version of these for awhile now. When I saw Target release a dupe I bought them immediately!
That was a few months ago, and even though it was too hot for them at the time I knew they would be perfect come fall. And probably sold out by then. I think I was right on both counts, haha! But lucky for everyone, they’re back in stock and I’m guessing they’ll be around for a long time!
Some of you may know I recently picked up another part-time job at Starbucks, and the last few months I’ve been adjusting to that new schedule. So far so good, especially because there’s always coffee!
Not only that, it’s been such a fun place to work because of the awesome coworkers and also the customers. I’m getting to meet tons of new people (who share my love for caffeine) and build relationships with them, which is awesome.
Thank you Madi Robison for the photos!
Right now I still don’t know exactly where life is taking me, but I’m trying to enjoy the journey even in the unknown. I know God has a plan and will lead me to my ultimate destination! In the meantime… here’s to another day of hustling, iced coffee, and trying to enjoy “fall” when it still feels like summer!
So how are you adjusting to the changing seasons where you live? Is it hot still? Cold already? I’m curious! Leave a comment and let me know. And tell me what you think about this stripes and jeans outfit!

Becka

]]>Plaid button down | Blue denim shorts | Gladiator sandals | Striped button down | White denim shorts | Rainbow sandals | Stranger Things tee | Madden Girl sandals | Scoop neck tee | Linen blend shorts | Slide sandals
I love loose-fitting, breathable button down shirts. They keep you cool and comfortable while also looking a little more put-together than just a regular old t-shirt! Win win if you ask me.
The first outfit I’m wearing is a blue checked shirt from Old Navy, and my basic blue denim shorts that go with everything. I love that this pair is a little longer than my others and not too tight, which makes me feel super comfy in them no matter where I am. And my gladiator sandals make me feel a little more chic while being deceptively comfortable.
The second outfit is a striped red top from Target that I cannot stop wearing! It’s super soft, almost like a silky texture, and I love the fit. It’s by Universal Thread, Target’s new women’s brand that I am LOVING so far!
White shorts are a fun change of pace from regular old blue jeans, plus they make your legs look more tan (wink). Sometimes in the summer I have no motivation to put on any shoes other than my trusty flip flops. I’ve had this pair of Rainbows for years now and they’re still going strong!
For both of these looks I did the classic “front tuck” to define my waist a bit and give my body balance. This is extra important for me since I’m super short (under 5 feet) so if I leave the shirts untucked I tend to drown in them! But a front tuck looks great on everyone. It’s super flattering but also easy and practical.
Although I love me some cute button downs, I’m a t-shirt girl through and through. I made these shorts-and-a-t-shirt outfits a little more interesting by tucking the shirts in.
The first one is once again my trusty blue jeans, paired with of course none other than a Stranger Things shirt (my fave)!! Love me an interesting graphic tee any day of the week. I paired these with my Birkinstock dupes, which I got from DSW (and truly think they’re much more comfortable than the real things).
The last outfit is a bit of a different style of shorts. These ones are soft with an elastic waste, have a drawstring tie, and pinstripes. I got these specifically for vacation because I think they’re perfect for travel and the beach. And hands down they’re the most comfortable shorts I own.
A black tee was the perfect balance to these patterned shorts, and this particular shirt has a wide neck and a front pocket which adds a little extra something! I wore my beachy slides from Target to top off this California vacation outfit, also from Universal Thread!
And there you have it, friends. Four super casual summer outfits with shorts to inspire you if you’re in a style rut! Which one is your fave? Leave a comment and let me know! I’ll talk to you soon!

Becka

]]>Button down shirt | Comfiest jeans ever | Slip-on shoes | Shoulder bag | Statement earrings
I think everyone liked my last style post about shopping on a budget, so I wanted to share some more great budget-friendly spring style ideas. Because who says you have to spend a fortune to try out the latest trends?! Definitely not me!
One of my favorite styles of all time, which I think will always be in fashion, is stripes. Blue and white are my fave, especially this time of year! I can’t tell you how comfy this buttondown shirt is. (It reminds me of this Madewell shirt that I love!) It’s a little oversized on me since I’m petite, and it’s so light and breezy. I know I’ll wear it all summer, too.
1. Button down 2. Ruffles 3. Bell sleeves 4. Tie front 5. Peplum 6. Long sleeves 7. Tee
And these jeans I’m wearing are hands down the comfiest, most flattering jeans I’ve ever worn. Definitely my fave (also wearing them in this post). They’re super cheap too. If you haven’t bought them yet then you better before they’re gone. You won’t regret it!
I’ve been playing with a couple different spring trends lately, specifically slip-on shoes and statement earrings (which you can also see in this post!). I took a risk on these white sneaks and wasn’t sure how they would look on. Turns out I LOVE them and can’t tell you how much I love being able to throw them on before running out the door! Plus they’re super comfy!
one // two // three // four // five // six // seven // eight // nine
And these earrings were a bold choice for me. I’ve seen these tassel earrings everywhere but never thought they’d look good on me. I just never get around to switching up my earrings. But I finally thought, heck why not?! I think they really jazz up the outfit and add an element of surprise!
Oh and did I mention this bag and how much I love it? Another super affordable dupe for this Madewell bag that I hope to own someday! There are so many purses I’m loving right now, especially anything round and/or straw! I’m definitely on the hunt for the perfect one but here are a few currently on my radar!
Are you digging these spring trends and have you tried any of them? What else are you loving this season? Oh, and what are your favorite stores to shop at for great prices?? Let me know in a comment below!

]]>I have to admit, life never turns out the way you expect. If you would’ve asked me a few years ago where I’d be at this age, I probably would’ve said I’d be married and maybe even have kids by now. But God’s plans are much better than ours, and clearly His plan for me is on a different schedule than mine. All I can say is thank goodness for that!
This season of my life is filled with learning and growing and finding what I’m passionate about and loving the people in my life to the best of my ability. Although it might look different from other people’s stories, I have more peace and excitement now than I’ve ever had before. Which I am SO thankful for!
In honor of turning 25 I thought it would be fitting to share 25 of the most valuable things I’ve learned so far in my 25 years of life. I hope they can encourage you in some way, wherever you are on your journey!
Dress (dupe for this one; also love this similar one) | Shoes (similar pair, also love these ones)
1. Your parents are usually always right.
2. You don’t have to do the same thing everyone else is doing just because everyone else is doing it.
3. Most worries & fears are so much bigger in your head than they are in reality.
4. What you care about as a teenager is probably not what you’re going to care about as an adult. You think you know everything, but you actually don’t. In fact you basically know nothing.
5. When you go on adventures, make sure you take pictures of the people you’re with, not just the places you go. Those are the memories you’ll cherish the most.
6. Nothing lasts forever. Seasons come and go, good and bad. Something new is always coming.
7. Nobody remembers who the cool people were in high school. “Cool” doesn’t actually exist anymore once you’re an adult.
8. Having a boyfriend/significant other is not the key to happiness.
9. You’ll never fix your problems by running from them. You can’t run from yourself. You’ll never have true peace until you face them head on.
10. If you’re not sure what to do about something, trust your gut. As a wise person once told me, “When in doubt, don’t!”
11. Going to college doesn’t automatically make you successful. And not going to college doesn’t automatically make you a failure. Life is what you make of it.
12. It’s not about where you go, it’s about who you’re with. Anywhere can be a blast with the right people, or even the most extravagant vacation can be miserable with the wrong people.
13. Life is too short to be stuck doing something you hate everyday. If you’re not happy with where you are, change it.
14. Nobody is going to respect you if you don’t respect yourself first.
15. If you try to do everything at once, you’re never going to accomplish anything. Instead, focus on one thing at a time and take baby steps to reach your goal.
16. How you look doesn’t matter – what matters is your confidence in yourself.
17. No person/thing/achievement/circumstance is going to make you happy. Only you can choose to be happy wherever you are (and only with God’s help).
18. Less is more. Physical clutter causes anxiety, but owning a small number of things that are valuable and useful will clear your mind and give you peace.
19. Praying is the most important thing you can ever do. Not just because it changes your circumstances, but because it changes you.
20. Life is too short not to eat the chocolate once in a while. Or the donut, or the french fries, or the piece of cake. It’s all about moderation.
21. You’re never going to “get there.” Every hurdle in life is a stepping stone to the next challenge. You’re never finished growing.
22. When you’re feeling stressed out, sometimes the best thing you can do is take a break and go to bed early. Let yourself recharge and start again in the morning.
23. Sometimes you have to learn the hard way. But hindsight is 20/20 and you’ll wish you took the advice before you made the mistakes!
24. Friends come and go but family is family, so those relationships are worth investing in.
25. Apart from Jesus you’ll never find what you’re looking for. You’ll never know true peace, joy, or contentment until you surrender your life to Him 100%. You’ll spend your life chasing happiness, but you’ll never reach it.
These things I’ve learned have come from years of experiences, challenges, mistakes, and growth. What about you? What are the biggest life lessons you’ve learned that you would want to share with others? I hope you’re having a lovely March, friends. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of my life!

The post 25 Things I’ve Learned in 25 Years appeared first on Live It Lovely.
]]>The post When to Save and When to Splurge appeared first on Live It Lovely.
]]>Now in my dream world, I’d love to own less things with greater value that will last a long time. But that can be a challenge because I love shopping and trying new styles! Sometimes I’m dying to try out a new trend, so buying something super expensive isn’t really a smart idea.
So where’s the balance? Here are a few things I’ve learned over the past few years of shopping successes and mistakes. Use these tips when you’re shopping to help you know when to save and when to splurge!
Tie front tee | Distressed jeans, also love the darker wash | Blush mules (and love these lavender ones) | Saddle bag | Earrings (similar) | Watch
If you’re anything like me, you probably have expensive taste. I love high quality items, like leather purses and shoes, because let’s be honest – they look so much nicer and last forever! In the past I’ve had faux leather items that wear down and fall apart quicker than I wish they had. It’s the worst.
But sometimes, spending a lot of money might not make the most sense, and buying the cheaper version can actually be the best option. Here are a couple clues to know when you should save your money and buy the bargain item instead:
1. When you’re not 100% sure
I can’t tell you how may times I’ve made this mistake: I’m shopping for something specific, and I’m stubborn and determined to have a higher value item instead of the bargain version.
I find one that kinda sorta mostly matches what I want, even though it’s not exactly perfect, and buy it because I’m impatient. But a few months later I realize I never really LOVED the item and then I regret spending so much on it!
I’ve had to sell nice things, like leather boots before, for much lower than I bought them, just because I wanted something nice and let myself settle on something I didn’t love that didn’t end up working in the long run. When you don’t have infinite funds, that’s what I’d call a fail. Don’t do that!
Instead, wait until you’re 100% sure you found the right item, or just save money and buy a cheap version!
If you’re thinking of investing in something, but you’re not sure, I can almost guarantee you can find a cheaper copy at a discount store (a.k.a. Target, Old Navy, Forever 21, etc.). It’s a great way to test out that style and see if it’s really what you want, and not end up with buyer’s remorse like I have.
(That’s what I decided to do with these blush mules from Target – I wanted to try out this style for cheap before buying a more expensive leather pair!)
If you decide you love the cheaper item, you can use it until it wears down, meanwhile saving up for the nicer one. I promise you’ll be SO much happier when you finally get the real deal and know for a fact that it will give you so much use!
And if you didn’t love it, at least you saved some money and still got to try out the trend.
I know I called this post when to save and when to splurge, but I think the word “splurge” carries the wrong connotation. Splurging means spending on impulse, without giving much thought ahead of time. But that’s not what I’m talking about here. I use the word loosely, but a better term for what I mean is wisely investing your money on something of higher quality.
It’s important to be wise with your money and be sure that when you’re buying something expensive, it’s going to be something you use for a long time or that can give you much more value than a cheap version! Here are two ways to know when you should splurge and get the expensive item:
You’ll know something’s worth investing in if you’ve saved up, looked at every option, and know exactly what you want (and know exactly how you’ll use it), and are willing to wait awhile to be sure. It might be hard, but try waiting at least a month before you buy an investment item. That way you can be sure it’s not just an impulse buy but something you know you’ll use for a long time.
Something I’ve learned that’s worth the money is good jeans. Most lower priced jeans aren’t very comfortable or flattering and I struggle to find any that fit just right! That’s why I’m so happy I invested in these Levi’s. For me these jeans were a higher value purchase, and I had my eye on this particular pair for awhile. I’ve seen them on a lot of different people and knew that they would be flattering on anyone. So I finally ordered them, and so far they have not disappointed!
Even though ripped-knee jeans are a trend, I know they’ll be around for awhile. These jeans are great quality and will last a me long time, and of course they go with everything! And for real – I don’t think it’s worth it to buy a cheap pair of jeans that don’t make you look great from every angle. You should always feel good, look good, and be comfortable in jeans any day of the week!
Not to mention, Levi’s is a reputable brand and known for its quality. I’d say splurge on things like jeans or anything specialty (like running shoes for example) from brands that are known for that particular product! I recently invested in a pair of Nike running shoes, and yes, good athletic shoes are pricey, but totally worth it so I can avoid injuries and have support while running.
In the end, deciding when to save and when to splurge is totally up to you! Everyone’s budget, values, and lifestyle is different. Maybe you have money to spend on higher quality items, but if that’s not something you value, then you would probably rather buy lower priced clothing and use your money towards something else, like organic groceries or a vacation (or your Starbucks addiction ).
My number one piece of advice is don’t ever compromise your values to buy something that’s in style, or to impress anyone. Don’t be irresponsible with your money. Go with your gut and what makes the most sense for you.
Be wise, but don’t feel bad if you worked hard and budgeted for something nice and made a well-earned and useful purchase! You’ll save in the long run because of the use you’ll get from it. And you should enjoy the blessings God’s given you and live a little!
What about you? How do you decide when to save and when to splurge? Tell me your favorite brands and places to shop in the comments!

This year is different though. In the last couple years I’ve learned some hard and valuable lessons. I’ve chased the wrong relationships at the wrong times, which has only led to heartbreak. God’s used recent seasons in my life to help me grow up, and now I see how important it is to treasure the season I’m in and not take all the blessings I already have for granted.
Maybe you’re in a season like me – praying and hoping and waiting for something. Instead of dwelling on what you don’t have, choose to see the beauty of life all around you. Love your family and friends well. And most importantly learn to love yourself! Choose to see yourself through God’s eyes. You’re created beautiful and unique and lovely and unlike anyone else.
And maybe what you’re hoping for will never come… but that doesn’t mean your life isn’t complete and can’t be lived to the fullest! Chase your dreams. Pour into your future. Embrace every moment because each day is a gift. This season of life could be the biggest blessing in disguise! Remember, no season lasts forever. The good and the bad – it all comes and goes. So be thankful for what you have right in front of you!
If you’re in a relationship, you’re blessed. Cherish that and show the person in your life how much the moments with them mean to you! And if you’re single… you’re BLESSED! You have the gift of time! Don’t waste it.
Take the time to pray for your future hopes, and love those around you like it’s your last day, every day. Give a gift to show your love to whoever means the most to you – your mom, your best friend, your brother… or maybe yourself. Maybe you, like me, need the reminder most of all!
When JORD gifted me with one of their wood watches, I immediately fell in love. The beauty of the watch to me represents everything I’ve been feeling lately, and I know that wearing it would serve as the perfect reminder to cherish every moment. Everything about this watch is beautiful – even the box it came in is gorgeous! I know it’ll be a timeless piece in my wardrobe for years to come.
I’m letting my watch be a reminder to appreciate the moments today. Just because you’re in a season of waiting doesn’t mean the time isn’t precious. And a unique wooden watch from JORD could be the perfect Valentine’s Day gift to show whoever it is you love (or yourself!) how much they mean to you!
If you love my JORD watch, you’re in luck! I’ve partnered with JORD to giveaway a $100 gift code towards any of JORD’S wood watches! Just click the link below to enter!
Even if you don’t win, every entrant will receive a 10% off coupon code to use towards your JORD purchase, just in time for Valentine’s Day!

Like I mentioned before, my favorite thing is chowing down on some homemade sugar cookies and drinking hot chocolate while wrapping presents by the tree. Put on some Michael Bublé and I’m basically walkin’ in a winter wonderland!

Sweater (and similar here) | Jeans (also love these) | Suede booties (sadly also sold out, but similar here and here) | Oversized denim jacket (love this one too)
The question I get asked the most often is how tall I am. I’m 4’10”, which yes is very small! My mom and I are the same height, and my Nana is even shorter. My aunt is also around 5 feet. We’re just a small family!
One of my favorite childhood memories is when my Tata (grandpa) used to take my cousins and me hiking every year on Christmas morning. We would hike up a small mountain behind my grandparents’ house that we called Christmas Mountain. We would bring a little grill and meat and tortillas and have a barbeque at the tiny, rocky top.
My favorite movie is Pride and Prejudice (with Keira Knightley). I can never get tired of it. I’ve watched it probably 5,000,000 times and I still love to put it on for something comforting to watch and fall asleep to. But a few of my other favorites are Tangled, The Parent Trap, That Thing You Do, and I can probably recite every line from School of Rock!
My favorite book is The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom. If you’ve never read it then you should. It’s an autobiography about a Christian woman who saved thousands of Jews in Holland by hiding them during the Holocaust, and then was caught and survived the horrors of a Nazi concentration camp. Sounds horrible, yes, but it’s also incredibly inspiring.
My favorite subject in school was social studies. I could never get tired of studying history and geography. In college I even took some human geography classes as electives, which sparked my interest in economics and business!
For the first two years of college I didn’t have a major because I couldn’t decide what to study. I finally picked management when I ran out of general education classes to take! I’m glad I picked it, because I discovered that I really love business and enjoyed all my management classes.
Speaking of business, I’ve been doing photography as a side business for 6 years now, and still haven’t replaced my first camera that I got for my 18th birthday! I really need to upgrade though because mine is probably on its last leg.
My favorite job was when I worked at Olive Garden during my last year of college. I was a terrible server but a great hostess! Work always felt like a party and I made some of the best friends while I was there. I think a part of me will always miss it!
My current obsession is Stranger Things. And I mean I’m like really obsessed. I’ve already watched season 2 twice. I tend to get obsessed with things easily – when I was a kid I was obsessed with Johnny Depp, and I remember watching Pirates of the Caribbean over and over and over. I could probably recite that whole movie too!
I’m still trying to decide what I want to be when I grow up. (Does 24 count as grown up yet? ) Ever since I was little, my biggest dreams for the future were to be a wife and a mom. Those are still dreams of mine! I think my biggest desire in life is to love people and build relationships with them. As long as I’m doing that, I think I’ll be living my purpose.
Ok that’s WAY enough about me! What about you?! Leave a comment and tell me a couple facts about you so I can get to know you better too!

Sweater (thrifted; similar here) | Skirt (also love this one and this one) | Boots (old; similar here)
I found the cutest corduroy skirt at Target, and I love the festive colors and the mini floral print. This sweater is actually thrifted, but it’s so soft and cozy and a little oversized which makes it extra comfy! I tucked it in for a more flattering fit, and to show off the skirt a little more. And if you saw my casual fall outfit post last month then you’ve already seen these grey ankle boots! Last time I wore them with jeans, but here you can see that they also go great with a skirt.
This year my mom and I are making quite a few dishes to take to my grandparents’ house for Thanksgiving dinner. Usually we’re in charge of mashed potatoes and rolls, but this time I’m also making my homemade apple pie, the BEST from-scratch creamed corn (I use this recipe I found on Pinterest and it is AMAZING), and roasted veggies. Oh and almost forgot my mom’s pumpkin cream cheese pudding pie! Wow I’m drooling just thinking about it all.
Our plan is to do as much prep and cooking ahead as we can on Wednesday, so we don’t have to stress too much on Thursday. (I’m also gonna try and make some cinnamon rolls for breakfast on Thursday… we’ll see if I can pull it off!) We did all our grocery shopping this morning and it was already getting a little crazy out there at the grocery stores. Glad we got it done!
What are your Thanksgiving plans this year? Are you trying any new recipes? I love hearing about other people’s holiday traditions, so leave a comment and tell me yours! Also, let me know what you’re wearing and if this Thanksgiving outfit inspired you. Happy Thanksgiving!

]]>The post Easy Fall Outfits: 3 Styles to Try This Year appeared first on Live It Lovely.
]]>Keep reading for 3 styles to try for some easy fall outfits!
Bomber jacket (similar here and here) | Cheetah graphic tee (Sold out but this one is similar) | Skinny jeans (love these too) | Converse sneakers | Rose gold watch (similar here)
Maybe you’re all about neutrals and rarely add a bright pop of color to your outfits. Why not go out on a limb and try adding some warm and rich tones, like orange, yellow (this sweater for example), brown, red, or burgundy? Or even dusty pink, my new favorite (non-traditional) fall color!
Shop your closet for something you might already own before spending money on something new. You don’t have to be fancy to change up your style! A pretty red sweater might be all you need to take your outfit from drab to fab. Sounds like the perfect way to create some easy fall outfits to me!
I saw this pink bomber jacket at Old Navy and immediately fell in love. (It’s basically a dupe for this Madewell one!) Light pink is always an excellent choice if you want to look feminine and chic. And I love that I’m seeing it everywhere this fall! This jacket is warm without being bulky, so I know I’ll be wearing it all through winter here in Arizona.
So this second idea is basically the opposite of the first. If you don’t know what to wear, try wearing all black! Basically it’s the easiest of easy fall outfits. True story: I used to rarely buy or wear black because I thought it was a sad, boring color. But in recent years I’ve (finally) realized that black is classic, looks flattering on everyone, and it’s never going out of style! Also, it goes with EVERYTHING.
These distressed skinny jeans and this black graphic tee are my most recent purchases. And an all-black outfit is like the perfect backdrop for a pretty pop of color, like my pink bomber jacket!
This is a fun one! If you’re anything like me then you love a good t-shirt, but you also probably gravitate towards plain, striped, or traditional graphic tees with a just a single image on the front.
But have you tried a patterned graphic tee yet?!
I went out of my comfort zone when I picked this cheetah patterned t-shirt (sadly sold out, but here’s a similar one) – and the real reason I originally bought it? Because it reminded me of my cat!
Now that I’ve worn it, though, I decided it’s a simple way to make an outfit fun in an understated way. You get the quirkiness of a cool graphic on your shirt, but the smaller pattern makes it seem more grown up and easy on the eyes! It’s funny how trying one new thing can open the door to so many new easy outfit ideas!
And there ya have it, folks. Three simple style ideas, endless easy fall outfits to try. I hope you’re feeling inspired! Let me know if you try any of these, or all 3 at once like I did! Also, would you rock a pink bomber jacket like this one?? Leave a comment and let me know!
